Bridget Jones, wanton sex goddess and completely unrecognizable.
Hugh Grant was unable to recognize a picture of Reneé Zellweger on “Watch What Happens Live,” even though he played her love interest in the first two “Bridget Jones’s Diary” movies.
The 55-year-old British actor was presented with photos of six of his former female co-stars from the nose up and he could pinpoint all but one.
“Who is the one second from the right, because I’ve never seen her before in my life?” Grant asked.
And even though he said he was “determined not to be a d---,” the “Florence Foster Jenkins” actor did throw some shade at his six former co-stars — the list also included Drew Barrymore, Sarah Jessica Parker, Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.
Grant said it was “pushing it” to call any of them down-to-earth, and added he hasn’t really stayed in touch with any of his leading ladies.
Grant’s failure to recognize Zellweger comes on the heels of the actress’ scathing op-ed piece in which she denounces Hollywood’s sexist double standards and slams those criticizing her change in appearance.
“Maybe we could talk more about why we seem to collectively share an appetite for witnessing people diminished and humiliated with attacks on appearance and character?” Zellweger wrote in the Huffington Post piece. “Maybe we could talk more about our many true societal challenges and how we can do better?”
Zellweger, after a six-year absence, returned to Hollywood to make “Bridget Jones’s Baby,” a film Grant passed on because he “couldn’t quite make the script work.”
When asked whether or not he would regret opting against reprising his role as the womanizing Daniel Cleaver, Grant replied, “It depends on how much money it makes obviously.”
