A mother’s natural instincts kicked in for a battle against nature as she fought off a Colorado mountain lion who attacked her son.
The woman heard her 5-year-old boy and his older brother screaming outside their home near Aspen shortly before 8 p.m. Friday, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office.
She rushed outside and was able to “physically remove her son from the mountain lion,” police said.

The boy suffered injuries to his head, face and neck, but was in fair condition early Saturday after being taken to a local hospital and then transferred to a facility in Aurora.
His heroic mother also had minor injuries to her hands and legs but was released from the Aspen hospital, according to the Denver Post.
Beyond saving her son, information provided by the unidentified woman led U.S. Forest Service officers to the lion, which they put down.
