More body parts thought to be a Seattle nurse who was murdered by a man she was dating were found Friday morning, police said.
Investigators believe John Robert Charlton killed Ingrid Lyne, a 40-year-old mother of three, last week in her suburban Renton home, cut up her body and dumped her remains in Seattle’s Central District. Charlton was arrested Monday and charged two days later with first-degree murder and car theft, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
A garbage collector found the remains Friday morning on 20th Ave. between East Union and East Marion streets, blocks from where a homeowner found Lyne’s head, arm, leg and foot over the weekend, according to the Seattle Police Department.
Homicide investigators believe the remains discovered Friday are linked to her murder, but the King County Medical Examiner’s Office will rule on their official identity, The Seattle Times reported. Coroners have confirmed the initial body parts found were Lyne’s.
Teams of investigators could be seen in KIRO-TV footage searching all the waste bins in the residential area after the 9:45 a.m. discovery Friday. Police blocked off the street and a tarp covered the back of a trash truck.
The charges against Charlton, 37, carry at least 21 years behind bars if he’s convicted. Prosecutors said the man with prior felony convictions who met Lyne online a month ago also stole Lyne’s car, which was found in downtown Seattle late Monday.
“The tragic murder of Ingrid Lyne has left a family and community in a spiral of grief and anguish,” King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg said in a statement. “We may never understand why she was killed, but the police and prosecutors working on this case have done a tremendous job of piecing together a solid case against the person we believe to be responsible for her death.”
Investigators believe the killing followed a date to a Seattle Mariners baseball game Friday night. Lyne’s death has prompted an outpouring of support for her three daughters on GoFundMe, where a family friend had raised over $188,000 through 3,775 donations Friday night.
“Ingrid left behind many that loved her, but, most importantly, her three daughters are now without a mother,” the page said. “It is heartbreaking to think of the journey ahead for this family.”
